The Tree of Life is a Kabbalistic diagram that maps the structure of existence itself, from pure divinity down to the physical world. Ten Sephirot (spheres) are arranged in three pillars, and a cord of lightning connects them top to bottom. Used as a tarot spread, the ten cards give each Sephirah a voice: the higher positions speak of transcendent forces, the middle positions of spirit and balance, and the lower positions of emotion, body, and daily life.

What Each Sephirah Means
- Crown (Kether) — the highest level of the Divine, the place where God abides in Absolute, Undivided Glory. Before the creation of the universe, God exists in perfect Unity and Singularity, in a state of complete stillness and potential. This position corresponds to the seventh chakra: the union with the Divine Being.
- Wisdom (Chokmah) — the first expression of the Creative Energy of the One into the world of differentiated forms. It is the first sign of the transition from Unity to Duality, and from there to Multiplicity. Wisdom emphasizes intelligence, logic, and thought, and carries the masculine energy of directive force.
- Understanding (Binah) — the complement of Wisdom and therefore the feminine side of Duality. It holds the qualities of feeling, compassion, and love, which bring balance and restraint to the strict logic of Wisdom. Like Wisdom, Understanding can represent a face of the Divine — the other side of the same coin, Yin to Chokmah's Yang.
- Mercy (Chesed) — the position of Kindness and Mercy witnessing the original creation of the material world. This level corresponds most to the experience of creativity, energy, and the impulse for new beginnings.
- Judgment (Gevurah) — the complement of Mercy, representing the energy that tears down what was built. Where Chesed is Vishnu the preserver, Gevurah is Shiva the destroyer. The world is a paradox of creation and destruction; the darker side is not evil but a purifying counterbalance that prepares the soul for what comes next.
- Beauty (Tiphareth) — Spirit itself, the greatest attribute of humanity and the link between the higher, more impersonal levels and the everyday world. This position represents the deepest part of the soul, the Self — the Atman of Hindu tradition, symbolized by the figure of the Christ as the perfect union of flesh and spirit.
- Victory (Netzach) — despite a name that sounds traditionally masculine, this position represents the world of human emotion, intuition, and love. Together with the next position it is the first place on the Tree of Life that deals directly with human personality. Here the most intimate aspects of being human meet — the higher levels above are far more abstract.
- Splendor (Hod) — logic and intellect, the balancing counterweight to Netzach's emotional energy. Reason and intuition are complementary forces that must balance for human beings to live well. Logic uncoupled from sensitivity often leads to trouble; reason and feeling must work together, and Balance is what brings stability to a life.
- Foundation (Yesod) — the sexual-creative energy center. When energy blocks or concentrates here, the person focuses almost entirely on erotic matters and interprets everything through that lens. But beyond literal sexuality, this position influences the psychic energy underlying the personality. In Tantric tradition, sexual energy is redirected to bring higher states of awareness — a powerful tool when properly channeled.
- Kingdom (Malkuth) — the energy center of the material, physical world: bodily survival, everyday concerns, practical life. Of all the Sephirot, Malkuth holds the lowest level of energy, yet it contains the full presence of the Divine like every other card — God is present at every level of creation, and the potential to live that presence is always within us.
