Chinese Zodiac: The Goat

The Chinese zodiac is a repeating 12-year cycle in which each year is associated with one of twelve animals: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. The animal of your birth year is believed to shape your personality, temperament, and compatibility with others.

The Goat is the eighth animal in the cycle. Recent and upcoming years of this sign: 1931, 1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003, 2015, 2027, 2039. Those born under this sign are traditionally regarded as sensitive, artistic, and gentle, people with a rich inner world and an intense need for beauty and harmony.

Goat Woman

The woman born in the years of the Goat has something dreamlike about her. Her gaze often seems to wander somewhere beyond what you are seeing, as if watching a film that only she projects within herself. She speaks softly, writes, paints, or sings — and even if she does not work professionally in the arts, she has an artistic eye in everything, from the way she sets the table to the way she chooses her clothes.

She is sensitive to a degree that sometimes makes her fragile. She cries easily, is moved by a song, by an image, by a child in the street. This sensitivity is her most beautiful trait — but it also makes her vulnerable to people who know how to exploit her. She needs around her people who protect her, who understand that her sensitivity is not weakness but the way she sees the world.

In love she is romantic to an excessive degree. She dreams of the great, the perfect love, the man who will understand her without her having to explain anything. When she does not find him — and she rarely finds him as she has imagined him — she may let herself sink into melancholy or become entangled with the wrong people who take advantage of her willingness to love.

In her home she loves beauty and care. The objects around her have meaning, most often a story. She dislikes cold minimalist decor — she wants warmth, fabrics, colors, a home that embraces her when she returns. And she shares this home generously with those she loves, creating for them a world where they too can let themselves go a little, far from the harshness of everyday life.

Goat Man

The Goat man does not fit the traditional mold of the hard, assertive man. And he is not interested in fitting it. He is sensitive, cultured, with a leaning toward the arts and letters. He prefers emotional depth to competition, creative work to professional aggression, quiet coexistence to the rowdy party.

In his work he is industrious when the subject interests him — but if he must do something that leaves him indifferent, he will not pretend to enjoy it. He prefers to find a quiet way to earn a living and keep as much time as possible for the things that fulfill him. He does not chase wealth, but he likes to enjoy good things when he happens to have them.

In love he is tender and devoted, but he demands a woman who understands him. He cannot live with someone who sees his sensitivity as weakness or who wants to transform him into someone he is not. When he finds the right partner, their relationship can be one of the most beautiful and harmonious coexistences. If he falls into the wrong relationship, he will suffer silently for a long time before deciding to leave — for he fears conflict more than unhappiness.
